MC Series

The MC Series is Okidata's color multifunction line, and its shelf is built the way these machines are actually supplied: in sets. Of the 166 listings on this page, well over half are multi-cartridge sets and packs, because an MC printer that scans and copies in color tends to drink its four colors together. The codes underneath the sets are individual, though — black, cyan, magenta and yellow each carry their own number, like the 43865720 family and the 44059213, 44059214 and 44059215 colors — and every one of them can also be bought one at a time.

Twenty-nine codes cover the series, spread across 47 model pages from the compact MC351 to the big MC860. Several of those code families will look familiar if you have shopped the Oki C Series shelf: the same four-code families are sold into both lines, since the multifunction machines and the color printers draw on common cartridge designs. The series name tells you the kind of machine; the code tells you the cartridge, and the two do not always travel together.

Which cartridge should you buy?

Decide by how the machine is used. If one color is empty and the rest have life, buy that single color — your model page (MC351, MC562W and MC860 show the pattern) lists the four codes for your machine. If the printer is new to your office, or two or more colors are low together, the four-color set is the natural buy and it is how most of this shelf is stocked. Heavy copying offices often keep one full set in reserve: an MC down for a cartridge usually blocks scanning and copying too, not just printing.

Chip, toner and everyday use

Four cartridges means four chips and four separate level readings; replace the color that is called for and leave the others seated. A set swap — all four at once — is also the moment to run the machine's cleaning routine and check the first color copies closely, because a multifunction shows cartridge problems in copies as well as prints. Store spare sets flat and sealed, and note that these compatible cartridges carry a one-year warranty and one-year returns, sets included.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I buy the four-color set or single cartridges?

Singles when one color is low; the set when several colors are low together or when you want a full reserve. The set is the same four cartridges sold together, not a different product, so the choice is about timing, not compatibility.

Do MC Series printers share cartridges with the C Series?

Several families, yes. Codes such as the 43865717 color family and the 46490601 family are sold on both shelves because the same cartridges serve printers in both lines. Your model page remains the final word for your machine.

Do all MC Series models use the same cartridges?

No. Twenty-nine codes are spread across the series, grouped in four-color families per model range. Two MC printers can share nothing at all, which is why the code — matched on the model page — is the only safe way to order.

One color is printing light but the level looks fine. What is happening?

Levels are estimates. A cartridge near the end can print light before the machine calls it empty, and on a multifunction the same weakness shows in copies first. If one color fades while others stay strong, that color's cartridge is the place to look.
