Frequently Asked Questions

Why pair MICR toner with a high-yield cartridge?

Volume. This CE255X MICR cartridge, at $162.23, carries magnetic check-printing toner in the high-yield 55X body, rated at 12,500 pages — the combination payroll and accounts-payable departments reach for when check runs number in the hundreds.

What exactly does the magnetic toner do?

It lets bank reader-sorters read the coded line printed along the bottom of each check. That line has to be magnetic, not merely visible, which is why check stock must be paired with MICR toner rather than an ordinary cartridge.

Can you guarantee our bank will process these checks?

No — and that guarantee is not ours to give. Acceptance rests on your bank's standards, your check stock, printer alignment and the finished signal on the page. What this cartridge provides is the correct magnetic material at production volume; the verification step below is how you confirm the rest.

How should a large check run be validated?

Print a short test batch on the actual check stock and have it read — by your bank or your own reader — before the full run starts. At payroll scale, catching a problem on ten checks rather than nine hundred is the entire point of the test.

Should check printing live on its own printer?

At this volume, usually yes: a dedicated machine loaded with check stock and the MICR cartridge removes the changeover mistakes that happen when one printer alternates between letters and checks all day.

Does the yield rating work the same way on check stock?

The 12,500-page rating is measured on the standard basis. Checks carry light print coverage, so real-world counts vary with your check layout — what matters is that the cartridge is built for long runs between changeovers.

About This CE255X MICR Cartridge

There is a scale of check printing where the task stops being occasional and becomes a production run — weekly payroll, vendor payment cycles, rebate programs. The LaserJet P3015dn is a common engine for that work, and this CE255X MICR cartridge supplies it with magnetic toner at a 12,500-page rating, so a long run is far less likely to be interrupted halfway through a batch.

It is covered by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns and ships from the nearest of our IL, PA, GA and CA warehouses; delivery details are on the shipping & returns page.
