Frequently Asked Questions
Why would a networked M401dn need its own MICR listing?
Because a shared network printer that prints checks raises a control question: whoever sends a job, the cartridge in the machine decides whether the checks are machine-readable. This CF280X MICR unit keeps the shared M401dn loaded with magnetic toner, so every check it produces carries a readable bottom line.
What does the MICR fill actually do?
It puts magnetic material into the toner that prints the routing, account and check-number line along the foot of each check. Bank reader-sorters sense that line magnetically; ordinary 80X toner prints the same digits but the sorter cannot read them.
Can several staff print checks through this printer?
They can send the jobs, but keep the discipline tight: check stock in the tray, MICR cartridge in the machine, and a house rule that nobody swaps the cartridge for general printing. On a shared device, the rule matters more than the hardware.
Do you guarantee bank acceptance of the checks?
No — that judgment is made by your bank on a printed check. Before the first live run, print a small test batch from the M401dn and confirm a check scans cleanly; after that, the setup is proven for every user of the printer.
What does the cartridge cost and cover?
$103.32 for one sealed unit rated at 6,900 pages. Checks are light pages, so on a check-focused printer that rating typically spans a long stretch of pay runs.
What if the unit underperforms?
It carries a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns. Support answers Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST.
