Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a specific cartridge for the MFP version of the M4555?

There is no separate MFP cartridge — the multifunction M4555 takes the same CE390X high-yield unit as the rest of the series, also sold as the 90X. This page is simply the listing aimed at MFP owners; the cartridge in the box is the standard 24,000-page unit.

Our M4555 MFP is the office copy center. How does copying affect cartridge life?

Directly. A copy is a printed page, so a morning of copying contracts draws on the cartridge exactly as printing them would. In copy-heavy offices the 24,000-page rating is reached sooner than the calendar suggests, which is why the high-yield CE390X is the sensible default for an MFP doing double duty.

Can scanning run while the cartridge is empty?

Scanning to email or a network folder does not involve toner, so that side of the MFP keeps working even with the cartridge spent — but printing and copying stop. In practice the cartridge should be changed on the first fade so none of the machine's functions are caught short.

What does the changeover involve on the MFP?

Open the top cover, take the old cartridge out by its handle, pull the sealing strip from the new 90X, slide it home and close the cover. The scanner, feeder and control-panel settings are entirely separate from the cartridge bay, so nothing else needs attention.

Which machines can share the spare I buy here?

Every M4555 variant — the LaserJet M4555f among them — and the LaserJet Enterprise 600 printers all use the CE390X, so one spare covers the monochrome fleet.

What if the cartridge fails early in an MFP that cannot be down?

It is covered by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, with support available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST. A defective unit is replaced or refunded under those terms.
