Frequently Asked Questions
On an MFP, which functions actually draw on this cartridge?
Only the ones that put toner on paper: printing and copying. Scanning and sending consume nothing from this MICR cartridge (CE390X, the magnetic 90X). On the LaserJet M4555, that makes the cartridge's working life a story of printed pages — 24,000 of them at standard coverage — while the scan glass can stay busy all day without touching it.
Why would an MFP need a MICR cartridge at all?
Because many offices print their checks on the biggest machine they own. When the M4555 prints a check, the coded line along its bottom must be magnetic for bank readers; that is precisely what this toner provides, in the same CE390X format the machine already takes.
What is the risk of someone copying on the MICR cartridge?
Waste, not damage. Walk-up copies printed while the MICR unit is fitted consume specialty toner on ordinary paper. The practical rule: fit the MICR cartridge when the check run starts, restore the standard 90X when it ends, and let copying habits carry on unchanged in between.
Can we count on our bank accepting MFP-printed checks?
Not on the cartridge's say-so. Acceptance depends on the bank's equipment, your check stock and the machine's condition. Print test checks on your own stock from this M4555 and have the bank confirm them before a live run.
Does fitting it change any MFP settings?
No settings travel with a cartridge. The swap is physical only; if your check job needs single-sided output or a specific tray, set that at the job, as usual.
What backing comes with the cartridge?
A 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns. Support is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
About This M4555 MICR Cartridge
At $194.41, this MICR cartridge (CE390X / 90X) lets the office's M4555 multifunction printer earn a second role at payroll time — a 24,000-page magnetic unit for the checks, alongside the standard cartridge it uses for everything else. Orders ship from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, and the shipping & returns page sets out delivery and returns; the wider range is under HP.
Its printer list, complete at 17 models, reads the Enterprise M4555f, the Enterprise M4555fskm, the Enterprise M4555h, the LaserJet Enterprise 600 M602dn, the LaserJet Enterprise 600 M602n, the LaserJet Enterprise 600 M602x, the LaserJet Enterprise 600 M603dn, the LaserJet Enterprise 600 M603n, the LaserJet Enterprise 600 M603xh, the LaserJet Enterprise M4555f, the LaserJet Enterprise M4555fskm, the LaserJet Enterprise 600 M601dn, the LaserJet Enterprise 600 M601n, the LaserJet Enterprise 600 M601, the LaserJet Enterprise 600 M602, the LaserJet Enterprise 600 M603 and the LaserJet M4555. For the other slots and pack sizes, see the standard-yield 90A MICR cartridge (CE390A) and the 90X MICR base single (CE390X).
