Frequently Asked Questions

This MFP is shared by the whole office — how do checks stay safe in the mix?

By treating the MICR fitting as an event, not a state. On the LaserJet M4555, the check run begins when this MICR cartridge (CE390X, the magnetic 90X) goes in and ends when the standard cartridge comes back. In between, everyone in the office should know the machine is "on checks" — a line in the team chat or a note on the panel does it.

What goes wrong if the run is not announced?

Two symmetrical accidents: a colleague's report prints on check stock, or the tail of the check run prints after someone has swapped back early. Both are process errors, not cartridge faults — and both disappear once the swap is announced and logged.

What does the MICR toner itself contribute?

A magnetically readable coded line on every check. The cartridge is otherwise the standard CE390X the M4555 MFP uses daily, rated at 24,000 pages; only the toner compound is different.

Is bank acceptance assured for a shared machine's checks?

No. Acceptance is never guaranteed by a cartridge; it rests on the bank's readers, the check stock and the printer. Print test checks on your own stock and confirm them with the bank before the first payroll, and re-confirm when stock changes.

Does the MFP need a dedicated check tray for this to work?

It helps but is not required. Loading check stock for the run and removing the remainder afterwards works fine; a dedicated tray simply removes one more chance of a mix-up on a busy shared machine.

What warranty and returns cover it?

A 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns. Help runs Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
