Frequently Asked Questions
How does a double-duty M602DN handle both reports and checks?
By swapping, not by compromising. The LaserJet Enterprise 600 M602dn spends most of its life on a standard CE390X; when check stock goes in, this MICR version of the 90X goes in with it. The exchange takes about two minutes, and the machine needs no setting change beyond single-sided printing for the check job.
What exactly is magnetic about it?
The toner. MICR toner carries magnetic material so the routing line printed along the bottom of a check registers on bank sorting equipment. The cartridge shell and fit are the familiar CE390X, rated at 24,000 pages.
Is there a risk in swapping cartridges back and forth?
Very little, handled normally: keep the resting cartridge in its bag or box, away from dust and light, and never touch the imaging drum surface. Offices that swap weekly for payroll treat it as routine within a month.
Can I promise our bank will clear these checks?
No — and be wary of any supplier who promises it. Clearing depends on the bank's readers, your check stock and the printer. Print test checks on the stock you actually use and have the bank confirm them before the first full run on the M602DN.
Why not leave the MICR unit in permanently and simplify life?
Because the department's everyday pages would drain a specialty cartridge at standard-job rates. Magnetic toner earns its keep only on check stock; the standard 90X is the right tool for the other ninety percent of this printer's work.
What support stands behind it?
A 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, and a help desk staffed Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
About This M602DN MICR Cartridge
This MICR cartridge (CE390X / 90X), at $194.41, is the check-day partner for a departmental M602DN: a 24,000-page unit that drops in for payroll and vendor runs, then gives the bay back to the standard cartridge. Orders ship from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA; the shipping & returns page details delivery and returns, and more of the range is filed under HP.
