Frequently Asked Questions

What arrives in the 2-pack box?

Two CF281X black cartridges, each sealed in its own packaging inside the outer carton. The working pattern most offices settle into is simple: one cartridge goes into the printer, the second stays sealed on the shelf as the standing spare.

Why keep the second cartridge sealed until change day?

The sealed wrap is doing quiet work — it keeps dust, light and humidity away from the cartridge while it waits. Open it only when the installed unit is ready to come out, and the spare goes in at full strength.

How long can the spare sit in the supply cabinet?

Stored flat in its packaging at ordinary room temperature, a sealed cartridge waits patiently for many months. The things that shorten its patience are heat, damp and sunlight, so a office cabinet beats a spot beside a radiator or a window.

When should the next pack be ordered?

The moment the spare goes into the machine. That is the cleanest trigger there is: the printer is running again, the shelf is empty, and a fresh 2-pack ordered that day restores the rotation long before the new cartridge runs low.

Will both cartridges print identically?

Yes — same code, same 25,000-page rating, same output character. If you keep the last page printed by the old cartridge, you can compare it with the first page from its twin; the density should match.

What if one cartridge in the pack has a problem?

Every pack carries a 1-year warranty with 1-year free returns, and our shipping and returns page explains how a return moves. Stock ships from Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California, whichever is closest, and support answers Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

About This 2-Pack

A 2-pack is the smallest stock that keeps a busy Enterprise printer — a machine like the Enterprise M605dh — from ever waiting on a delivery. Two CF281X cartridges at 25,000 pages each cover a long stretch of departmental printing, and the rotation of one installed plus one sealed means the low-toner warning never becomes a stopped queue. The pack is $99.75 in the HP toner cartridges range at Clever Supplies.

Stocking this cartridge also covers Enterprise MFP M630h, LaserJet Enterprise flow MFP M630z, LaserJet Enterprise M605dn, LaserJet Enterprise MFP M630f, Enterprise M605dh, Enterprise M605dn, Enterprise M605n, Enterprise M605x, Enterprise M606dn, Enterprise M606x and Enterprise MFP M630f. There is also the standard-yield CF281A 2-pack (81A) for lower monthly volume. Another way to buy it: the CF281X single (81X).
