What is MICR toner, in plain terms?

MICR toner contains magnetic iron oxide. Bank sorting equipment reads the special MICR line along the bottom of a check magnetically, so checks must be printed with magnetic toner rather than ordinary toner — that is the entire job of this cartridge.

How do I know this is the MICR version and not the standard one?

It is marked MICR on the cartridge and the box, and the part is specified as the CE390X MICR (the 90X MICR). Check the marking before fitting: it looks like the standard unit and installs the same way, so the label is the distinction that matters.

Will my bank definitely accept checks printed with this cartridge?

No cartridge can promise that, and we will not: acceptance depends on your bank, your check stock and your printer's condition. Print a small test batch on your actual check stock first and confirm a sheet with your bank before running a full check cycle.

Can I print ordinary office documents with it too?
