Frequently Asked Questions

What changes when the check printer is shared across a network?

Discipline matters more, because anyone can send a job to the LaserJet Enterprise 600 M601n. Offices that print payroll on a networked machine usually schedule check runs, fit this MICR cartridge (CE390X, the magnetic 90X) for the run, and clear the queue before and after — so no everyday job lands on check stock and no check lands on plain paper.

Is the cartridge itself different from the M601N's usual supply?

Only in the toner. It is the same CE390X format, rated at the same 24,000 pages, but filled with magnetic toner so the coded line on each check can be read by bank equipment.

Does network sharing affect which cartridge to buy?

No — the supply is the machine's, not the network's. Any workstation that can print to the M601N benefits from the MICR unit once it is fitted; nothing needs to be installed at the desks.

Will the bank accept checks from a shared printer?

Acceptance is never guaranteed by a cartridge, whatever the printer. It rests on the bank's readers, the check stock and the machine's condition. Print test checks on your own stock and have the bank confirm them before a live payroll runs through the shared queue.

How do we stop colleagues printing memos with the MICR cartridge?

Fit it for the check run and remove it afterwards, returning the standard 90X cartridge for general work. A note on the machine during payroll — "MICR fitted, checks only" — handles the rest.

What warranty applies?

A 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns. The support team is reachable Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
