Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the M601DN's check work ignore its duplex unit?
Checks print on one side only, so on the LaserJet Enterprise 600 M601dn the duplex path that serves the office's reports all week sits out on check day. This MICR cartridge (CE390X, the magnetic form of the 90X) simply feeds the same engine with toner a bank's readers can sense along the check's coded line.
What makes the toner different from the standard cartridge this printer usually takes?
The toner itself is magnetic. Everything else — the shell, the fit, the 24,000-page rating — matches the standard CE390X the M601DN already uses; only the imaging material changes, because check clearing reads the MICR line magnetically rather than optically.
How do I set the machine up for a check run?
Load check stock in the tray you dedicate to it, confirm the job is set to single-sided, and fit this cartridge before the run rather than after regular printing. Keeping the check tray and the MICR cartridge as a pair of habits prevents the classic error: a full payroll printed in ordinary toner.
Can I be sure my bank will accept the output?
No cartridge can promise that. Acceptance also depends on your bank, your check stock and the printer's condition. Print a small set of test checks on your own stock and let your bank verify them before the first full payroll — after that, repeat the test when the stock or the cartridge batch changes.
Should this cartridge stay fitted once checks are done?
Swap back to a standard 90X for everyday work. The M601DN's daily reports and letters gain nothing from magnetic toner, and every memo printed with it spends a specialty supply.
What cover and help come with it?
A 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, with support available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
