Frequently Asked Questions

Does the fax side of the M4555F touch this cartridge?

Only when a fax is printed. Incoming faxes land on paper through the same print engine, so a fax that arrives while this MICR cartridge (CE390X, the magnetic 90X) is fitted will print in magnetic toner — harmless, but one more reason the LaserJet M4555f should get its standard cartridge back once the check run ends.

What is this cartridge for, in one line?

Printing checks whose bottom coded line bank equipment can read magnetically. The toner is magnetic; the cartridge is the regular CE390X format, rated at 24,000 pages.

Our fax cover sheets and check runs share the machine — what is the clean routine?

Standard cartridge for the everyday mix of faxes, copies and reports; MICR cartridge in only for the check batch; standard back in immediately after. The swap takes about two minutes and keeps both supplies doing the work they are meant for.

Can we assure our bank the checks will clear?

No cartridge supports that assurance. Clearing depends on the bank's readers, your check stock and the machine. Print test checks on your own stock and have the bank confirm them before a live run on the M4555F.

Will a check printed here look different from a normal page?

To the eye, no — MICR toner prints ordinary-looking black text. The difference is physical, in the toner itself, and only a magnetic reader can tell. That is also why visual inspection can never substitute for the bank test.

What support comes with the purchase?

A 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, and a support desk open Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
