Frequently Asked Questions

Which cartridge does the M4555f MFP take?

The CE390A — HP's 90A black cartridge. It is the single standard supply for the LaserJet M4555f multifunction line: $48.70 for a cartridge rated at 10,000 pages. The MFP designation changes the machine's functions, not its toner.

Does "MFP" mean this machine needs a special multifunction cartridge?

No. MFP simply records that the machine prints, copies, scans and faxes. All of its printed output — copies and received faxes included — comes through the one CE390A in the print section, which is exactly the cartridge on this page.

Our M4555f MFP is the office copy hub. How fast will it use a cartridge?

Copies count the same as prints against the 10,000-page rating, so a copy-hub machine consumes cartridges in line with its total printed output — often a cartridge every few weeks in a busy office. The machine's page counter aggregates both, which makes reorder timing easy to read.

Both prints and copies have gone pale at once. Likely cause?

The shared cartridge. Because one supply feeds every function, fading that appears everywhere at the same time almost always means the toner is low or settled. Rock the cartridge gently side to side and test again; if density does not recover, the 90A is finished and should be replaced.

Will fitting a new cartridge interrupt scanning and faxing?

Only the print side pauses, and only for about two minutes while the bay is open: old cartridge out, seal off the replacement, slide it home. Scanning to email never involves toner, and queued faxes print as soon as the new cartridge is seated.

What if the cartridge is defective when fitted?

It is backed by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns — a faulty unit is replaced or refunded without quibble. Our support team is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
