Frequently Asked Questions

How do I confirm this is the M602dn's cartridge before ordering?

Match the part number, not the picture: the LaserJet Enterprise 600 M602dn takes the CE390A, sold under the short name 90A as well. Both identifiers appear on this cartridge, so if either one shows on your printer's supply information, this $48.70 unit is the correct order.

Does heavy duplex printing wear the cartridge out differently?

The cartridge counts impressions, not sheets: a duplexed page is still one printed page of toner. On an M602dn running long double-sided reports, the practical effect is simply that the 10,000-page rating is reached in fewer, thicker stacks of paper. Toner consumption per printed side is unchanged.

What yield should our department plan around?

Plan on the rated 10,000 pages at standard coverage, then adjust from your own history — the M602dn's counter tells you exactly how many pages the last cartridge delivered. Offices printing coverage-heavy forms usually land under the rating; plain text offices often land close to it.

The toner light came on during month-end reports. Can we finish?

Almost certainly. HP's low warning is conservative, leaving a reserve for exactly this situation. If pages start to lighten mid-run, take the cartridge out and rock it gently side to side to redistribute what is left, then carry on and fit the new CE390A when the run is done.

Is the swap on an M602dn a service task?

No — it is designed for the user standing at the machine. Open the top, lift the spent cartridge out by its handle, strip the seal from the replacement and slide it in. Two minutes, no tools, and the network and duplex settings are untouched.

What happens if the cartridge is defective out of the box?

It is covered by a 1-year warranty and returns are free for 1 year, so a bad unit goes back for replacement or refund. Support is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

About This M602dn Cartridge

The CE390A (90A) is the black cartridge for the LaserJet Enterprise 600 M602dn — the duplex, networked departmental model — priced at $48.70 and rated at 10,000 pages. It suits machines that turn out two-sided documents all day: the cartridge change is rare, quick, and never requires the printer to be taken out of service. Orders are dispatched from IL, PA, GA and CA warehouses; delivery and returns terms are on the shipping & returns page, with the wider range for this model under HP.
