Frequently Asked Questions

The badge on our machine says M630dn. Which cartridge number do I order?

CF281X — the 81X family's high-yield black, rated at 25,000 pages. The M630dn is this listing's machine, and that code is what its supplies page will ask for when the level runs down.

Does duplex copying use toner twice as fast?

No. Duplexing puts print on both faces of the sheet — it halves paper use, not toner economy. A two-sided copy spends toner on two pages of content, exactly as two single-sided pages would; your yield is counted in printed pages either way.

Do copies and prints draw from the same supply?

Yes — one cartridge serves the M630dn's printing and copying alike, because a copy is simply a print made from the scanner. Only scanning itself, which produces no paper, leaves the cartridge untouched.

Can I check the toner level from my desk?

Yes. Type the machine's network address into a browser and the embedded web server shows the supplies percentage. It is the fastest way to know whether the corridor machine needs a cartridge this week or next month.

Night-time faxes seem to drain the cartridge. Is that real?

It is. Incoming faxes print in black around the clock, so a published fax number can spend a noticeable share of a cartridge outside office hours. If levels fall mysteriously, fax traffic is the first place to look.

What warranty and returns cover this cartridge?

A 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, with details on our shipping and returns page. We ship from warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California, and support is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
