Frequently Asked Questions

What cartridge does the LaserJet Enterprise M604dn use?

The CF281X — the high-yield black of the 81X family, rated at 25,000 pages. This listing is the M604dn's cartridge; the code on its supplies page and the code on this box are the same.

Does duplex printing halve my toner consumption?

It halves paper consumption. Toner is spent per printed page, and a duplex sheet carries two printed pages. Expect the 25,000-page rating to behave the same whether your M604dn prints single-sided or double — you will simply buy less paper along the way.

How long between swaps should a department expect?

Divide your monthly page count into 25,000 and you have a fair estimate. A department printing a few thousand pages a month will measure this cartridge's life in seasons; a machine running statements all day will cycle through it far sooner.

A pale band has appeared down one side of the page. Empty already?

Probably low rather than empty. Remove the cartridge and rock it gently side to side to redistribute the toner inside; the band usually clears for a while. Treat it as the signal to stage the replacement, not as a false alarm.

How do I check the level without walking to the printer?

Open the printer's embedded web server in a browser — its supplies page shows the remaining percentage. For a networked department machine like this one, that thirty-second check replaces guesswork entirely.

What cover comes with this cartridge?

A 1-year warranty with 1-year free returns; the steps are on our shipping and returns page. Orders are dispatched from Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California, and support runs Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

About This Cartridge for the M604dn

The M604dn is a straightforward department workhorse — networked, duplex, always on — and its supply is equally straightforward: one CF281X at $59.12, shared with family machines such as the Enterprise M605dh so the whole floor reorders a single code. Find it in the HP toner cartridges catalogue at Clever Supplies.

This cartridge is not tied to a single machine: it also fits Enterprise M605x, Enterprise M606dn, Enterprise M606x, Enterprise MFP M630f, Enterprise MFP M630h, LaserJet Enterprise flow MFP M630z, LaserJet Enterprise M605dn, LaserJet Enterprise MFP M630f, Enterprise M605dh, Enterprise M605dn and Enterprise M605n. Smaller offices often pick the standard-yield CF281A single (81A) over the high-yield unit. Shoppers comparing pack sizes will also find the CF281X single (81X).
