Frequently Asked Questions
Why would a check-printing desk keep two MICR cartridges instead of one?
Because check day does not negotiate. With this 90X-MICR (CE390X) two-pack, one cartridge works in the printer while the second waits sealed beside it; the moment the working unit fades, the spare goes in and the run finishes on schedule. The day the spare is fitted is your signal to order the next pack.
What is inside the box?
Two individually sealed MICR cartridges, each rated at 24,000 pages. They are identical units — open one, store the other flat and sealed, and never open the spare early "just to check it"; an opened cartridge ages whether it prints or not.
Can one of the pair live in a second printer?
Yes. The pair can be split between two machines on the CE390X platform — the LaserJet Enterprise 600 series or the M4555 family, such as the Enterprise M4555f — wherever checks are printed. Each office then holds its own magnetic supply.
Does buying MICR toner guarantee the bank takes my checks?
No. Bank acceptance is never guaranteed by a cartridge; it also rests on your check stock, the printer and your bank's own readers. Print test checks on your own stock first and have your bank confirm them before relying on the setup for a full run.
Should the MICR cartridge stay in the printer between check runs?
If the machine also prints everyday documents, swap back to a standard 90X cartridge for that work and keep the MICR unit for checks only. Burning magnetic toner on internal memos is the most common way offices waste it.
What if one cartridge in the pack is faulty?
Each unit carries a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, so a defective cartridge is replaced or refunded on its own — the good unit in the pack is unaffected. Help is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
About This HP 90X-MICR 2 Pack
At $98.79, this two-pack of 90X-MICR cartridges (CE390X) suits a single check-printing station that cannot afford a mid-run stop: one cartridge printing checks, one sealed in reserve, each rated at 24,000 pages. Orders ship from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, and the shipping & returns page sets out delivery and returns; the rest of the range is filed under HP.
