Frequently Asked Questions

Why is this cartridge listed for the M630z specifically?

Because the flow model is where check runs usually live. The LaserJet Enterprise flow MFP M630z sits at the top of the M630 line in busy accounts-payable departments, and this cartridge is the MICR version of the CF281A — the HP 81A cartridge the M630z takes — filled with magnetic toner and priced at $137.86.

What does the MICR toner actually do on the M630z?

It makes the bottom line of a check machine-readable. Banks process checks by scanning the routing and account numbers magnetically, and ordinary toner carries no magnetic signal. MICR toner does, so checks printed on your LaserJet Enterprise flow MFP M630z carry a line their equipment can read.

Can I be sure my bank will accept these checks?

No cartridge can promise that, and we won't pretend otherwise. Acceptance depends on your bank's readers, your check stock and your software settings together. Print a small test batch first, take sample checks to your bank for a scan test, and only then move live payments onto it.

Does copying on the M630z use the same MICR cartridge?

Yes — on an MFP, printing and copying draw on the one installed cartridge, so copies of check registers or payment records come off the same CF281A MICR supply. Scanning and faxing use no toner at all. Many offices keep that in mind and treat the machine's cartridge as their check supply first.

How long does one cartridge last in check service?

The 81A is rated at 10,500 pages. A check page carries very little print — the check itself, a stub, the MICR line — so a cartridge in check-heavy service typically covers many payment cycles before the M630z asks for a change. Let your first cartridge calibrate the real number for your office.

What protection and delivery terms come with it?

The cartridge is covered by our 1-year warranty with 1-year free returns, and it ships from our Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California warehouses. Questions about a check-printing setup are welcome Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST, and delivery details live on our shipping & returns page. The wider range is under our HP heading.

About This M630z MICR Cartridge

A flow-class MFP earns its floor space by moving paper fast, and in a finance department a good share of that paper is checks. This cartridge exists for exactly that workload: the standard CF281A fit, a magnetic toner fill, a 10,500-page rating and a $137.86 price, with the bank test kept as step one rather than fine print. Fit it, prove a sample batch at your bank, and the M630z you already run becomes the check printer your payment cycle needed.

Stocking this cartridge also covers Enterprise M606x, Enterprise MFP M630f, Enterprise MFP M630h, LaserJet Enterprise flow MFP M630z, LaserJet Enterprise M604dn, LaserJet Enterprise M605dn, LaserJet Enterprise MFP M630f, Enterprise M604dn, Enterprise M604n, Enterprise M605dh, Enterprise M605dn, Enterprise M605n, Enterprise M605x and Enterprise M606dn.
