Frequently Asked Questions

In short, what is being sold on this page?

A MICR toner cartridge in the CF281A fit — HP's 81A — for the Enterprise M606x, at $137.86. Its job is singular: print checks whose account line banks can read magnetically, on the fastest machine in the family.

What does the magnetic part actually accomplish?

Check processing equipment doesn't read the bottom line of a check by sight; it senses the characters magnetically as the check passes through. Toner with a magnetic component prints characters the equipment can sense. That's the difference between this cartridge and the standard 81A your Enterprise M606x runs the rest of the time.

Is there a guarantee the bank accepts the output?

There isn't, and there can't be from any cartridge maker — acceptance depends on the bank's readers, your check stock and your software working together. So do what every well-run payable office does: print a small test batch, have your bank scan the samples, and start live runs on their confirmation.

Big payroll runs mean long stretches of check stock — how does the cartridge hold up?

It's rated at 10,500 pages, and a check page spends toner sparingly — the check face, a stub, the MICR line. Even at M606x volumes, a single cartridge carries a long series of payroll cycles, and the printer reports its level well ahead of empty.

Does anything else about the printer change when this is fitted?

Nothing. The M606x treats it as the 81A it is: same installation, same job handling, same trays. Fit it for the check run, and afterwards the machine returns to the department's documents with the standard cartridge swapped back in — or simply leave the MICR in for general work, as some sites do.

What comes with the cartridge besides the toner?

Our 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, delivery from our Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California warehouses, and a support team available Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST. Delivery terms are on our shipping & returns page, and the broader catalogue sits under HP.

About This M606x MICR Cartridge

When an organisation's check run is measured in trays rather than pages, the printer is already chosen — what remains is the cartridge that makes its output bank-readable. This is that cartridge: CF281A fit, MICR toner, 10,500-page rating, $137.86, and the same standing instruction we attach to every MICR cartridge — test a sample batch with your bank first, then let the M606x do what it was bought to do.
