Frequently Asked Questions

What does the "MICR" in this cartridge's name commit it to?

Producing a check whose bottom line a bank can read. This is the CF281A — the HP 81A — for the Enterprise M605x, filled with toner carrying a magnetic component, priced at $137.86. Without that fill the line prints but doesn't register with processing equipment.

How is it different from the standard 81A our M605x usually takes?

Same cartridge body, same fit, different toner. The standard fill is for documents; this one is compounded for the magnetic reading of check lines. On the Enterprise M605x the swap takes a moment, and the machine treats both identically.

Do we need the bank's sign-off before relying on it?

You need their scan test, yes. Whether a check processes depends on the bank's readers together with your check stock and software, so acceptance can never be guaranteed by a cartridge alone. Print a small test batch, have the bank run the samples, and treat their confirmation as the green light for live payments.

Can stored check templates on the printer be used with it?

Yes — templates and stored jobs print through whatever cartridge is fitted, so a saved check layout works the same with this MICR cartridge in place. The cartridge changes the toner, not the printer's job handling, and ordinary documents can follow the run without any adjustment.

How many pages does one cartridge print?

The CF281A rating is 10,500 pages. Check stock spends that slowly: a page carries a check, a stub and one printed line of numbers, so offices on a weekly or biweekly cycle generally get a long service life from a single cartridge before the M605x asks for another.

What terms back the purchase?

Our 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, shipping from our Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California warehouses, and support Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST. The delivery picture is set out on our shipping & returns page, and the full range lives under HP.

About This M605x MICR Cartridge

The M605x is the machine offices pick when the printer itself should be easy to live with — clear panel, saved jobs, no fuss. This cartridge matches that spirit for check work: the standard 81A fit, MICR toner inside, 10,500 pages of rating, $137.86. One habit completes the setup — a sample batch tested by your bank before the first real run.
