Frequently Asked Questions

Three cartridges of what, exactly?

Three black CF281A cartridges — the HP 81A — each rated at 10,500 pages and each sealed in its own wrapping. The 3 pack is priced at $111.02 and suits an office that restocks by the quarter rather than by the emergency: a working cartridge, a ready spare, and one more behind it.

We run two printers that both take the 81A. Can one pack feed both?

Yes, and that is a common way this pack gets used. The Enterprise M604dn, its M604n sibling and the M605, M606 and M630 models all draw from the same CF281A shelf, so the three cartridges can be spread across machines as each one runs low.

How do I keep track of which cartridge to use first?

Work oldest-first. Write the delivery month on each box when the pack arrives, keep the boxes in date order, and always take the front one. Toner keeps well sealed, but a simple rotation means no cartridge sits forgotten at the back of the cupboard for years.

What page count should we expect from each one?

Each cartridge is rated at 10,500 pages under the standard test. Dense pages — contracts with heavy text, forms, statements — draw more toner per sheet than light memos, so a department printing mostly dense documents will land somewhat under the rating, and a lighter workload can pass it.

Is there anything to set up in the printer for a compatible cartridge?

No. These Clever Supplies compatibles from our HP range are made to the CF281A fit: open the printer, lift the old cartridge out, drop the new one in. The machine reads the cartridge and reports toner levels as it always has.

What if one of the three turns out faulty?

Every cartridge is covered individually by our 1-year warranty, and orders carry 1-year free returns, so a problem with one cartridge does not leave the other two in limbo. Delivery comes from our Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California warehouses, support is available Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST, and the full terms sit on our shipping & returns page.

About This 81A Three-Cartridge Pack

Three is the pack size for offices that have been caught out once and organised themselves afterwards. One CF281A in the machine, one on the shelf, one in reserve — that rhythm covers a small fleet or a single very busy Enterprise printer through a full quarter of ordinary work. At $111.02 the 3 pack turns toner from a recurring small crisis into a line on a stock list, which is exactly where a 10,500-page cartridge family belongs.
