Frequently Asked Questions

How many pages will this cartridge realistically cover in an SL-M2870FD?

The MLT-D115L is rated at 3,000 pages on standard 5% coverage test sheets, which is close to an ordinary page of office text. An SL-M2870FD usually earns its keep on mixed work - prints, copies and pages arriving through the document feeder - and all of that output draws from the same fill. Dense originals with shaded boxes or bold blocks use more toner per page, so busy feeder days pull the total below 3,000; a diet of plain memos lands right on it.

The pages coming off the feeder look weaker than prints from the computer - is the cartridge to blame?

Usually not. A scanned or copied original can only be as dark as the image the machine read, and a slightly dusty scanner glass softens copies while computer prints stay crisp. Print a page straight from a PC first: if that page is strong, the cartridge is healthy and the feeder path just needs a glass clean. Weakness on both routes at once is the true sign of a fill running out.

What does the toner in this cartridge work out to per page?

One cartridge costs $37.06 and carries 3,000 rated pages, which is about 1.24 cents of toner per page. It is the high-yield figure that matters here: the standard-yield MLT-D115S version of this same cartridge holds less toner, so although it is cheaper to buy, each of its pages costs more than these.

How do I order the right cartridge for this machine without guessing?

Read the code on the cartridge you take out. If it says MLT-D115L, this page is the match; if it says MLT-D115S, that standard-yield unit fits the same slot and this L version is its longer-lasting equivalent. Model names on the front panel - SL-M2870FD among them - are shared across a whole platform, so the part code is the surest check there is.

Which printers take this same cartridge?

The MLT-D115L is the shared cartridge for Samsung's Xpress M2620, Xpress M2670, Xpress M2820, Xpress M2830 DW, Xpress M2870 and Xpress M2880FW, together with the SL-M2820DW, SL-M2830DW, SL-ML2830DW, SL-M2870FW and SL-M2880FW. The platform was sold under both badges, which is why one cartridge covers so many front panels.

What protection do I get with this compatible cartridge?

Every unit is covered by a one-year warranty, and returns stay free for twelve months - a cartridge that leaks, band-marks or fades far too early is sent back at our expense. The terms are published on the shipping and returns page. Orders leave from IL, PA, GA and CA, and help runs Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
