Why do banks care what's in the toner?

The line of numbers along a check's bottom edge is processed by magnetic readers at the bank. Can you promise our bank will take checks from this cartridge?

Does the M630h's hard disk change anything about check printing?

The disk is the machine's affair — stored and pulled-from-disk jobs print through the same cartridge either way. What matters for checks is simpler: the stock loaded, the line positioned correctly, and this MICR cartridge in place. Copying on the M630h also draws on it; scanning does not use toner.
