What is in this pack?

Two black CF281A MICR cartridges — the HP 81A fit with MICR toner — each rated at 10,500 pages and each sealed in its own wrapping. At $80.18, the 2 pack exists for one practical reason: a check run should never have to stop halfway because the cartridge faded.

Why does a spare matter more for checks than for ordinary printing?

A half-finished check run is a genuine problem — numbered check stock, a payment batch in progress, people waiting to be paid. If the fitted cartridge fades mid-run on your Enterprise M604dn or another M604, M605, M606 or M630 printer, the second MICR cartridge goes straight in and the batch completes with the same magnetic toner from first check to last.

What does the MICR toner actually do?

It carries a magnetic component that lets bank scanning equipment read the routing and account numbers printed along the bottom of each check. Without readable magnetic characters, checks face manual processing or rejection — which is why the toner, not just the printer, has to be the MICR kind.

Can we rely on our bank accepting checks from these cartridges?

No cartridge can promise that outright — acceptance depends on the bank's equipment, your check stock and your software settings together. Print a small test batch from the first cartridge and have your bank review it before live runs. Once your setup is confirmed, the second cartridge keeps the same routine going.

How should the spare cartridge be kept?

Sealed, flat, in a dry drawer near the check stock is ideal — close enough to grab mid-run, protected enough to stay in perfect condition. Only break the seal when the cartridge is about to go into the printer.

Both cartridges carry our 1-year warranty, and the order is covered by 1-year free returns.
