Budget by total pages out, whatever produced them. The MLT-D105L is rated for up to 2,500 pages, and the machine draws prints, copies and received faxes from it indiscriminately. An office that totals 500 pages a month across all three jobs should plan on a cartridge roughly every five months — one line in the budget instead of three.

Is a copy cheaper or dearer in toner than a print?

Neither — a page is a page. The SCX-4600 lays the same toner down whether the original arrived from a computer, the scanner glass or the phone line. People often assume copies cost more because they notice them less, but against the cartridge's rating the two are indistinguishable.

We recharge supplies to departments — what toner figure belongs on each SCX-4600 page?

Use 1.58 cents. The cartridge costs $39.40 and is rated for up to 2,500 pages, so dividing one by the other gives the per-page toner figure to load into your recharge rate, and it holds across the machine's print, copy and fax output alike. A department's monthly charge is then just its page count multiplied by that rate.

The low-toner warning appeared the morning of a big copy run — how much is likely left?

More than the warning makes it feel. The alert is an early estimate, deliberately shown while a working reserve remains, so a planned run can usually go ahead — just have the replacement within reach. The day output starts fading evenly is the day the cartridge is genuinely done, warning or no warning.

Our other Samsung machines — can they draw on the same shelf spare?

Very likely.
