Yes, the ML-1630W driver has a toner-save or eco setting that uses less ML-D1630A toner per page for text. It is ideal for drafts, internal documents, and anything bound for recycling. Disable it for final copies or anything a client will see.
Is it normal for pages from a brand-new ML-D1630A in the ML-1630W to come out looking faint?
With the ML-D1630A, touch only the ends or the handle — never the green drum shutter or the metal chip contacts. Drum fingerprints become permanent defects on ML-1630W prints. Keep the cartridge out of direct sunlight while installing it.
The ML-1630W only jams with some paper types — what could explain that?
The ML-1630W jams most at the pickup rollers where paper feeds in, and sometimes at the fuser where it leaves; the ML-D1630A has no role in paper movement. Gently clean both areas and check for torn pieces left by previous jams. A pickup roller too worn to grip is the classic repeat-jam cause.
