Frequently Asked Questions

What does 3,000 pages look like in the working life of an Xpress M2820?

Picture six reams of paper. That is one MLT-D115L cartridge at its rating - enough for roughly a school term of handouts, a quarter of a small office's paperwork, or well over a year of home printing at a few pages a day. The figure assumes ordinary text coverage around 5%, which typical documents match closely.

Why do some pages seem to use far more toner than others?

Coverage. A page of plain text covers about 5% of its area; a page with a large shaded chart, a full-width header graphic or dense bold tables can cover three or four times that. The cartridge does not count pages - it holds a quantity of toner - so heavy pages genuinely draw the total below 3,000 while light ones stretch it past.

What does toner cost per page from this cartridge?

The cartridge is $37.06 over 3,000 rated pages: about 1.24 cents a page. It is worth knowing the comparison - the standard-yield MLT-D115S fill of this same cartridge prints its pages at a higher unit cost, so the L on this page is the economical choice for anything beyond occasional printing.

How do I make sure I am ordering the cartridge the M2820 actually takes?

Go by the part code on the old cartridge. MLT-D115L is this one. An installed MLT-D115S also confirms the fitting, since the two are fills of the same unit. Model names are the weaker evidence here, because the M2820's platform-mates all share this cartridge and similar names appear on machines that do not.

Which printers take the same cartridge as the Xpress M2820?

The rest of the platform: Xpress M2620, Xpress M2670, Xpress M2870, Xpress M2880FW and Xpress M2830 DW, and the SL-M2820DW, SL-M2830DW, SL-ML2830DW, SL-M2870FW and SL-M2880FW. Keep one spare and every one of those models is covered by it.

What protection comes with this compatible cartridge?

A one-year warranty, with free returns for a year: a unit that leaks, streaks or fades far too early is returned at our expense. Terms are on the shipping and returns page. We ship from IL, PA, GA and CA, and support is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
