Frequently Asked Questions

What page count should I plan around for an SL-M2880?

Plan on 3,000 pages from this MLT-D115L cartridge under ordinary office coverage. That figure is measured at about 5% of the page covered in toner, which matches normal correspondence and reports. Pages carrying large shaded tables, logos or solid blocks draw heavier and reduce the count; draft-quality text stretches it further.

Why does the cartridge in the printer say MLT-D115S - will this one fit?

Yes. The S and L codes are two fills of the same cartridge: the MLT-D115S is the standard yield your machine may have shipped with, and the MLT-D115L on this page is the high-yield fill in the identical housing. It seats the same way and the printer treats it exactly the same - it simply keeps printing for far longer before the next change.

What is the real cost of a page from this cartridge?

At $37.06 across 3,000 pages, the toner element of a page is about 1.24 cents. That undercuts the standard-yield S version on a per-page basis despite the higher shelf price, because the fill is so much larger. Paper and the printer's own running costs sit on top of that figure, but toner is the part this cartridge controls.

My prints have started coming out pale at the edges - is a new cartridge the answer?

Even fading across the whole page usually means the fill is nearly spent, and a fresh cartridge settles it. Fading on one side only can mean the toner has settled unevenly: take the cartridge out and rock it gently from side to side to level the contents, then try again. If the pale patch stays in exactly the same place on every page, the issue is more likely the MLT-R115 drum than the toner.

Which printers share this cartridge with the SL-M2880?

The MLT-D115L serves a wide family: the Xpress M2620, M2670, M2820, M2870, M2880FW and M2830 DW, and the SL-M2820DW, SL-M2830DW, SL-ML2830DW, SL-M2870FW and SL-M2880FW. One cartridge design covers the whole generation, which keeps spares simple in offices running several of them.

What cover stands behind this purchase?

A one-year warranty and a year of free returns stand behind every cartridge: if one leaks, streaks or gives up well short of its rating, it comes back to us free of charge. Full terms are on the shipping and returns page. We dispatch from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, and support answers Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
