WF-4740 Ink — 802XL, the Tier This Printer Earns

Epson's setup-guide cartridge table covers the WF-4740 together with the WF-4720 and WF-4730: Black/Cyan/Magenta/Yellow = 802 standard / 802XL high capacity. On a machine built for volume, the XL tier is the working choice — the T802XL120 black runs 2,600 pages against the standard T802120 black's 900, with T802XL220 cyan, T802XL320 magenta and T802XL420 yellow at 1,900 pages each (ISO/IEC 24711). One naming note that prevents a duplicate category and a wrong order: this printer is also sold in some regions as the WF-4740DWF. That is the same printer under a regional name, not a different model — this page serves both badges, and no separate WF-4740DWF shelf exists or is needed. The look-alike WF-3720 and WF-3730 line takes 702 cartridges and is a different family entirely.

Which 802 should you buy?

One cartridge at a time: standard black ($19.49) for light use; XL black ($25.49), cyan, magenta and yellow ($22.49 each) for volume.
Black-heavy reset: the Set of 5 ($73.43) pairs two standard blacks with one XL of each colour — read the mix before ordering.
Full reset: the all-XL Set of 4 ($79.44) replaces every position at XL yields.

Chip, ink and everyday use

Each cartridge is chipped with a new compatible chip, and the honest caution for this family is the one Epson prints in its own manuals: a firmware update can stop a non-Epson cartridge that worked before it. Reseat and restart first if a warning appears after an update.
