On a WorkForce Pro, black is the cartridge that decides how often you stop work to swap ink — and in XL form it stops being a weekly thought. Our compatible T802XL120 carries DURABrite Ultra pigment black rated up to 2,600 pages (ISO/IEC 24711), close to three times the standard 802 black's 900 pages, in the same slot and the same seven printers.

The pigment formula is the point of this family: text that stays sharp and resists smudging, water splashes and highlighter passes once dry — the reason these machines are bought as laser alternatives. Its colour partners are the T802XL220 cyan, T802XL320 magenta and T802XL420 yellow, each rated up to 1,900 pages; the standard-tier black is the T802120, for lighter-duty printers on the same shelf.
It fits WF-4720, WF-4730, WF-4734, WF-4740, EC-4020, EC-4030 and EC-4040 — and not the WF-3720 or WF-3730, which run the separate 702 family. The cartridge carries a new compatible chip; the honest firmware note is in the questions below. Covered by our lifetime warranty, with free returns for the first year.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the page yield of the T802XL120?
Up to 2,600 pages at 5% coverage — Epson's published rating for the genuine 802XL black on the ISO/IEC 24711 pattern. Dense documents and cleaning cycles lower real-world totals; light text work tracks the rating.
How does it compare with the standard 802 black?
The standard T802120 is rated 900 pages; this XL is rated 2,600. Same printer slots, same pigment ink — the difference is purely how much ink is in the cartridge and how rarely you change it.
Which printers does it fit?
The seven verified 802 models: WF-4720, WF-4730, WF-4734, WF-4740, EC-4020, EC-4030 and EC-4040. Not the WF-3720/WF-3730 — those take 702 cartridges.
Will my printer recognise it?
This cartridge carries a new compatible chip. If your printer's firmware has been updated, recognition issues can occasionally occur — power off, reseat the cartridge until it clicks, and restart before judging it faulty. We do not promise recognition under every future firmware version; unresolved cases are covered by the lifetime warranty.
Why does black run out first on these printers?
Documents. Even colour pages lay down black for text and shading, and these WorkForce machines are bought for paperwork. At 2,600 pages the XL black narrows the gap, but on a busy WF-4740 it will still be your most frequent reorder — hence the single, the Set of 5 and the Set of 4.
What kind of ink is it?
DURABrite Ultra pigment ink — Epson's specified ink for the entire 802 family. Pigment particles sit on the paper surface, which is what produces the family's smudge-, fade- and water-resistant prints.
My WF-4740 also appears as WF-4740DWF online. Same ink?
Yes — WF-4740DWF is the same printer under a regional name. There is one WF-4740 shelf and this cartridge is on it; no separate cartridge exists for the DWF badge.
Can I mix this XL black with a standard colour already installed?
Yes. Slots are independent and tiers mix freely. That said, our colour singles for this family are XL (1,900 pages each), so a full XL shelf is the usual end state.
How do I install it?
Open the cover, remove the spent cartridge for the black slot, unpack the new one only when ready, remove the protective tape without touching the chip, press it in until it clicks, close up and let the printer charge the ink before printing.
Is this a genuine Epson cartridge?
No. It is a Clever Supplies compatible built to the T802XL120 specification, labelled compatible on the box and on this page, and not manufactured by Epson.
How should I store a spare?
Sealed in its pack, upright, at room temperature and out of direct sunlight. Open it on install day only — the seal is what keeps the cartridge reliable on the shelf. A specific shelf-life figure is not published for this product; see Specifications.
Single, Set of 5 or Set of 4?
This single when only black is low. The Set of 5 if you also want a spare standard black and fresh colours; the all-XL Set of 4 when every slot is due. All three are linked from this page.
