Start with the fact this whole family turns on: there is only one black. Our compatible T098120 is the black cartridge for every Artisan printer in this range — Epson never made a standard-capacity black for it, so there is no 'T099 black' to buy, whatever a marketplace listing claims. The T098120 is the high-capacity black, rated up to 500 pages on Epson's published rating, feeding the six-colour Claria Hi-Definition system these photo all-in-ones are built around.

The cartridge carries a new compatible Intellidge-type chip for ink-level reporting. Stated honestly: this cartridge carries a new compatible chip. if your printer's firmware has been updated, recognition issues can occasionally occur — these printers are long out of production, so new firmware locks are unlikely; the realistic risk is chip quality, which is why the cartridge is covered for life. Its colour partners are the standard-capacity T099 cartridges — T099220 cyan, T099320-S magenta, T099420 yellow, T099520-S light cyan and T099620 light magenta, each rated up to 500 pages.
It fits all eight verified US Artisan models — Artisan 700, 710, 725, 730, 800, 810, 835 and 837. There is no US Artisan 720, and the T097120 black belongs to a different (DURABrite) family entirely — neither belongs on this shelf. Covered by our lifetime warranty, with free returns for the first year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a standard-capacity (T099) black for my Artisan?
No — and this is the family's most important fact. Epson's own support lists define T099 only in five colours (T099220–T099620); the black is T098120 in both tiers. A listing selling a 'T099120 black' is selling a code Epson never defined.
So is T098 high capacity or standard?
High capacity. Epson's Artisan support pages label every T098 code 'High Capacity' and the T099 codes are the standard tier — the reverse of what many resellers assume. This black is the high-capacity cartridge.
How many pages does it print?
Up to 500 pages on Epson's published rating for the T098120. (Some compatible listings claim 545 — that is a reseller figure; we publish Epson's 500.) Photo-heavy printing will use black differently from the rating pattern.
Which printers take it?
All eight verified US models: Artisan 700, 710, 725, 730, 800, 810, 835 and 837 — the same 11-code list appears on Epson's support pages for the family.
What about the Artisan 720?
There is no US Artisan 720 in Epson's records — its published list closes at eight models. We don't list it, and we'd be cautious of any ink sold specifically for it.
Does it have a chip?
Yes, a new compatible Intellidge-type chip. This cartridge carries a new compatible chip. If your printer's firmware has been updated, recognition issues can occasionally occur; reseat the cartridge and restart the printer first if a warning appears.
Is the T097120 a cheaper black for this printer?
No. The T097120 is an extra-high-capacity black for the DURABrite T068/T069 family — a different ink system. It is not an Artisan cartridge and Epson lists it on none of the Artisan support pages.
Can I pair it with the high-capacity T098 colours?
Epson defines T098 colour codes (T098220–T098620), but the compatible ladder we stock pairs this black with the standard T099 colours — the combination LD builds its sets from. The T098 colour singles are an open sourcing item on our checklist, not a product we dress up as available.
What ink system is this?
Claria Hi-Definition — Epson's six-colour photo ink system for the Artisan line. (Our Specifications leave the formal Ink Type field blank: the inventory's official sources name the Claria system without a dye/pigment label we could verify, so we don't invent one.)
Is this a genuine Epson cartridge?
No — a Clever Supplies compatible built to the T098120 specification, labelled compatible on the box and this page. Not manufactured by Epson.
How much ink is in it, in millilitres?
We publish no figure: no verified volume appears in the official sources behind this family, so Volume stays blank rather than borrowed from a reseller. The verified measure is the 500-page published rating.
Warranty and returns?
Lifetime warranty — a cartridge that fails is replaced — and free returns within the first year.
