Yellow announces itself by absence: when it fades, greens go blue and warm documents look cold. This standard-capacity compatible T288420-S carries DURABrite Ultra pigment yellow rated up to 165 pages (ISO/IEC 24711), the standard tier the small Expression Home printers were built around — sized for homes where colour printing arrives in bursts of homework, forms and the odd photo.

The row it belongs to is the standard T288120-S black (up to 175 pages) with T288220-S cyan and T288320-S magenta beside this yellow at up to 165 pages each. Any slot can move up alone — yellow's XL form, the T288XL420-S, is rated up to 450 pages — and the tiers mix without friction. As pigment ink, its colour on plain paper carries the DURABrite Ultra water- and fade-resistance this document family is known for. A new compatible chip reports ink levels; the firmware note in the questions below is worth a moment before you install.
It fits the Expression Home XP-330, XP-340, XP-430, XP-434, XP-440 and XP-446 — and no other models. Covered by our lifetime warranty, with free returns for the first year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do greens turn blue as yellow runs low?
Green is printed from cyan and yellow together. Starve the yellow and the balance tips to cyan, so grass and leaves go blue-green, then blue. A nozzle check shows whether the yellow channel is firing.
How many pages is the standard yellow rated for?
Up to 165 pages under ISO/IEC 24711 — the same as the standard cyan and magenta. Sunny, saturated pages use yellow faster than the test pattern does.
Which printers use the T288420?
The Expression Home XP-330, XP-340, XP-430, XP-434, XP-440 and XP-446 — six models. The XP-420 is not among them; it belongs to another family.
Can yellow be replaced by itself?
Yes. The four cartridges are independent; the printer flags the empty one and only that one needs changing.
Does it report ink levels?
It does — a new compatible chip reports ink levels to the printer, so the gauge behaves as it does with a genuine cartridge.
What should I know about firmware before fitting it?
The honest line: this cartridge carries a new compatible chip. If your printer's firmware has been updated, recognition issues can occasionally occur, because Epson's firmware is written for Epson cartridges. If a warning appears, reseat the cartridge firmly and restart before judging it faulty.
Pigment or dye?
Pigment — DURABrite Ultra across the whole 288 family. That is what keeps this home printer's documents water- and fade-resistant on ordinary paper.
Can it run beside an XL black and standard colours?
Any mix works. Slots read their own cartridges, so standard and XL tiers coexist in whatever combination your printing calls for.
How much ink is in it, in millilitres?
We leave the Volume field blank: Epson's US documentation states no millilitre figure for the 288 family, and a reseller's number is not evidence. Compare on the 165-page ISO yield.
Is it a genuine Epson cartridge?
No — a Clever Supplies compatible built to the T288420-S specification and labelled compatible on the box and on this page. Epson does not make it.
When is the XL yellow the better choice?
When this slot empties noticeably ahead of its neighbours — landscape and photo printing does that to yellow. The XL is rated up to 450 pages, nearly three standard cartridges.
What warranty covers it?
Our lifetime warranty replaces a cartridge that fails to perform — unrecognised after troubleshooting, leaking, or printing poorly from new — and free returns apply within the first year.
