Frequently Asked Questions

This listing says Premium Quality — why is the price identical to the standard set?

Because on this family the Premium Quality listing and the standard listing genuinely carry the same $139.21 price, and we are not going to invent a difference to justify a label. You are choosing between two listings for the same four-cartridge set; the honest takeaway is that here, the Premium wording costs you nothing extra.

What is actually inside this MC873 set?

Four individually sealed cartridges — one black, one cyan, one magenta and one yellow — from the 44844509, 44844510, 44844511 and 44844512 family, named as a group rather than pinned color by color. Averaged across the box, each cartridge comes to about $34.80 of the $139.21 set price.

How far will 10,000 pages per cartridge stretch in practice?

The rating is up to 10,000 pages per cartridge on standard test pages. An MC873 doing mixed office work — black-heavy documents with occasional color — will see black work hardest and last longest, while presentation decks and full-color handouts consume the color cartridges noticeably faster. Plan around the rating as a ceiling for light-coverage work.

Can I keep the colors I do not need yet in storage?

Yes, and that is the normal way to use a set. Keep unopened cartridges sealed, flat, at room temperature and away from direct sunlight. They wait quietly on the shelf until the MC873 asks for that color, so there is no reason to install a fresh cartridge early.

How do I confirm this is the right set for my machine?

Check the number on the cartridge you are replacing against 44844509, 44844510, 44844511 and 44844512 — a match on the family is the surest confirmation. The same family is also listed for the Oki C831, C831dn, C831n, MC873dn and MC873dnc, which is why the number check beats going by the badge on the front panel alone.

What happens if a cartridge underperforms?

Every cartridge in this compatible set carries a one-year warranty and one-year free returns, set out on our shipping & returns page. Orders leave from our Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California warehouse — whichever is nearest — and a support person is reachable Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM Central.
