Frequently Asked Questions

Why does one cartridge number cover five different machines?

Because the AltaLink C8000 models are one family built on a shared design, and Xerox catalogues a single black supply for all of them: 006R01697. The models differ in speed and finishing, not in the black cartridge they draw from — which is why the black position on a C8045 and the black position on its smallest sibling take the identical cartridge.

Can a spare bought for this C8045 go into another machine instead?

Yes, without any qualification. The cartridge is not coded to a model; a spare on the shelf can be fitted to whichever family machine runs dry first. For a mixed fleet that means one stock item instead of five, and no risk of holding the wrong model's cartridge when a machine stops.

Does a faster machine get fewer pages from the same cartridge?

The rating does not change: a 006R01697 is built to deliver up to 26,000 pages whichever family model it sits in. A faster machine simply reaches the end sooner in calendar time, because it prints more pages per week. The cartridge's capacity is a property of the cartridge, not of the engine pulling from it.

Is this the black cartridge, or a full set of colours?

Black only — one cartridge, for the black position. The colour positions on the C8045 are supplied by their own cartridges under their own numbers, ordered separately. Nothing about this listing's 26,000-page figure describes any colour cartridge.

How does the price break down?

One cartridge, $118.35. Against its 26,000-page rating that is about 0.46 cents per page — the running cost of black output on the machine, before paper. For fleet budgeting the useful figure is per machine per year: count each machine's annual black volume, divide by 26,000, and that is its cartridge count for the year.

What support stands behind the cartridge?

Every cartridge is covered by a one-year warranty with free returns for a year; details are on our shipping & returns page. Orders are dispatched from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, and support runs Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
