Frequently Asked Questions

Faces in our prints have started looking sallow and slightly green — what is going on?

That yellow-green cast on skin is the classic fingerprint of a fading magenta cartridge. Skin tones are built largely from magenta and yellow, and when the magenta runs thin the yellow takes over, leaving faces looking jaundiced while the rest of the page still seems acceptable. On this machine the magenta supply is the 006R01699, and sallow faces are usually its earliest warning.

Which colours drift first when this cartridge gets low?

Anything with red in it. Reds slide toward orange and then brown because red is printed as magenta laid over yellow — take the magenta away and the yellow shows through. Purples lose their red component and come out plain blue, and pinks wash out to a pale peach. If your charts and logos are drifting warm while blues and greens still look right, the 006R01699 is the cartridge to suspect.

How do I prove it is the magenta before ordering?

Print the colour test page from the control panel of the ALTALINK C8030 and look at the magenta patch on its own. A healthy cartridge lays down a deep, even pink-red; a tired one prints it streaky, pale or broken up in bands. You can also check the supplies screen, which reports the estimated level of the 006R01699 alongside the other colours.

What does the 15,000-page rating actually promise?

It is the standard industry measure — 15,000 pages at 5 percent coverage. Presentation decks, photo pages and marketing sheets cover far more of the page than 5 percent, so a 006R01699 feeding that kind of work will finish well short of the headline figure, while a cartridge feeding mostly letters and reports can meet or pass it.

The low-toner warning is showing but the prints still look fine — do I swap now?

For internal drafts you can usually keep going and watch the output; the warning is an estimate, not a hard stop. But colour-critical work — anything a customer will see — should not be trusted to a cartridge in its last stretch, because magenta fades unevenly. Order the replacement when the warning appears so the fresh 006R01699 is on the shelf before the old one truly gives out.

What cover and delivery come with this cartridge?

The 006R01699 carries a one-year warranty, and returns are free for a full year — the full terms are on our shipping and returns page. Stock ships from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, and our support team is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST. The rest of the range is listed on the Xerox toner page.
