Wait — magenta is pigment in this family?
Yes. The 542 line is pigment in all four positions — that's what "DURABrite ET" means on these printers, and it's confirmed on Epson's family Fact Sheet and the printers' own "all-pigment" specifications.
Our logo reds look washed out. Low magenta?
Very likely — reds are magenta plus yellow, and a fading magenta tank dulls them first while also pushing neutral grays toward green. Refill, nozzle-check, and reprint the logo page to verify.
Can I use a cheaper dye magenta (502/522) instead?
No — for two reasons: the bottles are keyed differently, and Epson states these printers are designed for pigment inks only, with dye use potentially causing damage outside its warranty. This bottle is the specified chemistry.
How does it differ from the 522 magenta?
Chemistry and audience: 522 magenta is dye ink for home EcoTanks (7,500-page rating); 542 magenta is pigment for business EcoTanks (6,000-page rating). Different printers, different bottles.

On plain paper it looks crisper and more durable — that's the point. If you previously printed these documents on a dye EcoTank, expect slightly sharper edges and much better water resistance.
Can magenta be refilled on its own?
Yes — tanks are independent. The 4-bottle set is the full-reset option; singles handle single tanks.
