Frequently Asked Questions

What does "Premium Quality" actually promise on this C831CDTN set?

Honesty first: it does not promise a higher page yield or carry a higher price. This Premium listing is $139.21 — identical to the standard C831CDTN set — and each cartridge is rated at up to 10,000 pages, exactly the same figure. The label is the listing's name, not a surcharge, and we would rather say that plainly than dress up a difference the numbers do not support.

Will print quality stay consistent from the first page to the last?

That is the right expectation to hold any cartridge to. These compatibles — the black, cyan, magenta and yellow of the 44844509, 44844510, 44844511 and 44844512 family — should lay down even, dense color through their working life, with fading arriving only as a cartridge genuinely approaches empty.

How do I know which cartridge my C831CDTN is asking for?

The printer's display names the color, and the cartridge itself carries its family number. Match the request against 44844509, 44844510, 44844511 and 44844512, install just that one cartridge, and leave the remaining three sealed in the box.

Is it smarter to buy the set or chase individual colors?

For a shared department machine, the set: at $139.21 the average works out to about $34.80 a cartridge, all four slots are covered in one order, and nobody is left mid-deadline waiting on a single color. Light, occasional color users are the exception — they may prefer replacing colors one at a time.

What backing comes with these cartridges?

A one-year warranty and one-year free returns on every cartridge, spelled out on our shipping & returns page. Sets ship from the nearest of our Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California warehouses, and support runs Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM Central.

Do copies on the multifunction side use these same cartridges?

Where this cartridge family is used in a multifunction, yes — copies draw on the same toner as prints. Keep that in mind when you estimate how long the set will last: a machine that copies all day spends its ratings faster than the print count alone suggests.
