The MagiColor 1680MF also copies and faxes - does that change which cartridges I should buy?
Copying, especially color copying, consumes toner just like printing, so an MF machine typically uses more color toner than a print-only model. High-capacity A0V306F, A0V30CF and A0V30HF make more sense here than on a single-function printer.
Incoming faxes on my 1680MF print in black only - can I save toner on them?
Yes - faxes arrive as black-and-white, so they only consume the A0V301F black cartridge. Set the machine to print faxes in draft or toner-save mode to stretch that cartridge further.
If I upgrade from the 1680 to the 1680MF, will my spare A0V cartridges still fit?
Yes - the multifunction model uses the exact same A0V301F black and standard/high-capacity color cartridges. The MF features change how fast you use toner, not which cartridges fit.
