WorkForce Pro WF-3820

Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3820 printer

The WorkForce Pro WF-3820 is the reference model for the 822 family: Epson's own specification sheet for this printer lists its ink as 822 standard and 822XL high-capacity, in four individual DURABrite Ultra pigment cartridges. The Clever Supplies compatible 822XL cartridges below — black (T822XL120), cyan (T822XL220), magenta (T822XL320) and yellow (T822XL420) — rate up to 1,100 pages each (ISO/IEC 24711), each with a new compatible chip and a lifetime warranty.

WF-3820 Ink — The Family's Reference Page

Everything this family claims comes from the WF-3820's own Epson specification sheet: "Ink Type: DURABrite Ultra pigment ink", replacement cartridges 822 standard-capacity (black 350 pages, colours 240 each) and 822XL high-capacity (1,100 pages in every colour), yields on the ISO/IEC 24711 pattern. Our shelf carries the XL tier — T822XL120 black, T822XL220 cyan, T822XL320 magenta and T822XL420 yellow — because the compatible ladder for this family is XL-only; the standard figures are printed here so you can compare against the cartridges your printer came with.

One line, because it is this platform's costliest confusion: in the US the WF-3820 is an 822 printer. Listings from other regions call this same machine an 812 printer — a regional code, not US compatibility — and US 812 cartridges do not fit it. Check the cartridge door before ordering: a US WF-3820 says 822.

Which 822XL should you buy?

One colour ran out: replace just that colour — black, cyan, magenta and yellow singles — black $25.49, cyan $22.49, magenta $22.49, yellow $22.49.
Full refresh: the Set of 4 ($83.94) replaces all four positions in one box.
Stocked shelf: the Set of 9 ($175.37) stocks three blacks and two of each colour for offices that print every day.

Chip, ink and everyday use

The same spec sheet carries the family's honest caution in a footnote: this printer is designed for genuine Epson cartridges, and other brands, "even if described as compatible, may not function properly or at all". We sell our compatible cartridges with that sentence in view: they carry new compatible chips with ink-level reporting, the firmware note in the product questions is written plainly, and a lifetime warranty stands behind every cartridge, with free returns for the first year. Singles for the colour that's low, the Set of 4 for a full reset, or the Set of 9 bulk box.
