Yellow is the cartridge owners forget — until greens go blue and highlights go muddy. Our compatible T822XL420-S is the high-capacity yellow for the 822 line: DURABrite Ultra pigment ink, rated up to 1,100 pages (ISO/IEC 24711), against just 240 pages for the standard T822420-S yellow.

On these office printers the quiet colours still do real work. Every green on a chart, every highlight in a document graphic and most warm tones in a photo are built partly from yellow, and the printer also draws a little from every cartridge during cleaning cycles — so yellow falls steadily even in an office that swears it prints "mostly black and blue". Worse, a spent yellow stops the printer entirely, colour job or not. The XL tier keeps that slow drain from becoming a mid-week stop.

It fits all six verified US models — WF-3820, WF-3823, WF-4820, WF-4830, WF-4833, WF-4834 — in any combination with T822XL120-S black, T822XL220-S cyan and T822XL320-S magenta, and next to standard-tier cartridges during a transition. It fits nothing in the 812 family and nothing in the 232 family. It carries a new compatible chip — read the firmware note below before ordering. Lifetime warranty, free returns for the first year.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How many pages does this yellow print?

Up to 1,100 pages on the ISO/IEC 24711 pattern — Epson's published rating for the T822XL420. The standard yellow (T822420) is rated at 240 pages.

    Which printers does it fit?

All six officially verified 822-family models: WF-3820, WF-3823, WF-4820, WF-4830, WF-4833, WF-4834. Each model takes the same 822 / 822XL code set, confirmed in Epson's own specification sheet and 822XL fact sheet.

My greens have turned blue and prints look cold. Is yellow the problem?

Very likely. Green is cyan plus yellow; when yellow fades, greens slide blue and warm tones cool down. Run a nozzle check — a broken yellow pattern after cleaning points at the cartridge.

Why does yellow run out when I barely print yellow things?

Two reasons: yellow hides inside most mixed colours (greens, oranges, warm greys, skin tones), and the printer draws a small amount from every cartridge during printing and cleaning to protect the permanent print head — Epson explains this in its own support answers. A "spent" yellow also stops the printer until it is replaced, even for black-only jobs.

Will this cartridge be recognised by my printer?

This cartridge carries a new compatible chip. If your printer's firmware has been updated, recognition issues can occasionally occur — Epson's own spec sheet for these printers warns that other brands, even if described as compatible, may not function properly. Power the printer off, reseat the cartridge until it clicks, and restart before assuming the cartridge is faulty. We do not promise recognition under every future firmware version; if a recognition problem cannot be cleared, the cartridge is covered by our lifetime warranty.

    Is there an XXL yellow?

No. The 822 family has no XXL tier for any colour — XL is the top of the ladder. (The black-only XXL you may have seen belongs to the separate 812 family and fits different printers.)

What kind of ink is inside?

DURABrite Ultra pigment ink — the same ink family Epson specifies for the whole 822 line, in all four colours. Pigment ink is why these printers are known for smudge-, water- and fade-resistant document prints.

Can I install this XL yellow while the other slots hold standard cartridges?

Yes. Tiers mix freely by position on all six models — Epson lists standard and XL for every slot, and the printer reads each cartridge's own chip.

    How do I install it?

Remove the old yellow cartridge, take the new one out of its pack only when you are ready, remove only the protective tape, and do not touch the green chip. Press it into the yellow holder until it clicks, close the cover, and let the printer charge the ink before printing.

How should I store a spare cartridge?

Sealed in its pack, upright, at room temperature and out of direct sunlight. Do not open the pack until install day — the seal is what keeps the cartridge reliable. (A specific shelf-life figure is not published for this product; see Specifications.)

Is this a genuine Epson cartridge?

No — it is a Clever Supplies compatible cartridge built to the genuine cartridge's specification and code, labelled compatible on the box and on this page. It is not manufactured by Epson.

What warranty and returns cover this cartridge?

A lifetime warranty: a cartridge that fails to perform is replaced. Free returns run for the first year. (Returns note: the 1-year returns period is our standing compatible-product policy, applied to inkjet as an assumption pending Emrah's inkjet-specific confirmation.)
