Frequently Asked Questions

Our ML-2850 prints dense forms with shaded boxes - will we really see 5,000 pages?

On forms like that, expect fewer - and expect it from any cartridge, not just this one. The 5,000-page rating for the ML-D2850B is measured on standard test documents with modest coverage; shaded boxes, logos and bold fields use considerably more toner per sheet. The rating is still the right basis for comparing cartridges, but a forms-heavy ML-2850 should reorder on print quality - the first persistent fade - rather than on a page count.

What separates this high-yield cartridge from the standard-fill version?

Fill level. The standard-fill sibling is the ML-D2850A; this ML-D2850B is the same cartridge design loaded with more toner, which is where the 5,000-page rating comes from. Both fit the ML-2850 identically. The B simply runs longer between swaps and spreads its $53.21 across more pages, bringing the cost down to about 1.06 cents a page.

How does the $53.21 break down in everyday terms?

Across 5,000 rated pages, it works out at roughly 1.06 cents of toner on each sheet. Another way to picture it: one 500-sheet ream of paper takes about $5.30 of toner to print through, start to finish. Framing the cost per ream makes cartridge ordering easier to line up with paper ordering, since the two get consumed together.

Which printers does this cartridge fit?

It is listed for the ML-2850 named in the title, and the same ML-D2850B also fits the ML-2850D, ML-2850DR, ML-2851ND and ML-2851NDL. If your ML-2850 shares an office with one of those models, this single cartridge code covers both machines.

What cover does this cartridge carry?

A one-year warranty on the cartridge, and free returns for a full year if it arrives faulty or turns out to be the wrong code for your machine. The procedure is written out on our shipping and returns page, and the support team - Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST - can confirm the fit before you order if the model badge is worn or unclear.

What happens to print quality as this cartridge nears the end?

It fades rather than stopping: greys where blacks should be, one edge of the page lighter than the other, then a low-toner prompt. A gentle rock of the cartridge can level the remaining toner for a little longer, but a forms printer that needs crisp shaded boxes should treat the first fade as the finish line and swap the fresh unit in.
