Is this the standard 786 or the 786XL?

The XL — the high-capacity tier. Its code is T786XL220-S; the standard cartridge for this colour is T786220-S, and the two tiers share the same slot in every model on this page. We stock the XL tier, and we do not print a yield for the standard tier because its official US figure could not be verified.

Which printers does it fit?

All six verified 786 models: WF-4630, WF-4640, WF-5110, WF-5190, WF-5620 and WF-5690. Each takes the same 786 and 786XL code set, confirmed in Epson's own cartridge documentation.

Will this cartridge be recognised by my printer?

This cartridge carries a new compatible chip. If your printer's firmware has been updated, recognition issues can occasionally occur; reseat the cartridge until it clicks and restart the printer before assuming the cartridge is faulty. We do not promise recognition under every future firmware version — a recognition problem that cannot be cleared is covered by our lifetime warranty.

My printer says the cartridge is not recognised. What now?

Power the printer off, remove the cartridge, check the chip contacts are clean and dry, reseat it firmly, and power back on. If a firmware update came just before the message, that is the likely trigger — contact us and we will work through it under the lifetime warranty. Turning off automatic firmware updates is the practical step many offices take with compatible cartridges.

What happens when cyan runs out mid-job?

The printer stops and asks for the colour to be replaced before it continues, because every full-colour page is built from all three colours plus black. That is why a single spent colour can block a machine that still has black left, and why the colours are sold individually as well as in the Set of 4.

What ink is inside?

DURABrite Ultra pigment ink — the ink type Epson specifies for the whole 786 family in all four colours. Pigment ink is what gives these WorkForce Pro printers their smudge-, water- and fade-resistant documents.

Is this a genuine Epson cartridge?

No — it is a Clever Supplies compatible cartridge built to the T786XL220-S specification and labelled compatible on the box and on this page. It is not manufactured by Epson.

Can I use a T788XXL cartridge instead of this one?

No, and the distinction matters. T788XXL is a separate code set that fits only four models in this family — WF-5110, WF-5190, WF-5620 and WF-5690 — and never the WF-4630 or WF-4640. We do not sell a compatible T788XXL, and this T786XL220-S page makes no XXL claim.

How much ink is in it, in millilitres?

We do not publish a figure: Epson's official documentation for this family does not give a millilitre volume that we could verify, so the Volume field is left blank rather than filled with a reseller's number. The verifiable figure is the ISO page yield.

How do I install it?

Remove the spent cartridge for this colour, unpack the new one only when you are ready, do not touch the chip contacts, press the cartridge into its colour holder until it clicks, close the cover, and let the printer charge the ink before printing.

How should I store a spare?

Sealed in its vacuum pack, upright, at room temperature and out of direct sunlight, and opened only on install day. No specific shelf-life figure is published for this product, so none appears in its specifications.

Single cartridge or the Set of 4?

The single when only this colour is low. The Set of 4 (all XL) resets every position at once and costs less than the four singles together. Both carry the lifetime warranty, with free returns for the first year.
