My reds look orange since magenta ran low. Is that connected?

Very likely. When magenta fades, reds slide toward orange and skin tones lose their pink. A nozzle check will show whether the magenta channel is firing; if the pattern is clean but colour is still off, the cartridge is the next suspect.

How many pages is the standard magenta rated for?

Up to 360 pages under ISO/IEC 24711, Epson's rating for the genuine T279320. Portraits and warm-toned photos draw magenta harder than the test pattern does, so heavy photo use will see fewer.

Do I need light magenta as well, or can this cartridge do both jobs?

Both slots are required for the printer's full quality — the XP-980 is a six-cartridge design and expects the light magenta beside this one. Leaving the light slot empty or exhausted costs you the smooth end of every pink and red gradient.

Which printer does the T279320 fit?

Only the Expression Photo XP-980. The XP-960, XP-970, XP-950, XP-860 and XP-850 all belong to other families and will not accept it.

Can I swap in just the magenta?

Yes — every cartridge in this printer is individually replaceable, and the printer only asks for the one that is empty. There is no need to change neighbours that still have ink.

Will it report its level to the printer?
