How many pages does the set print?

Per cartridge, never summed: each black up to 500 pages; each colour up to 740 pages (ISO/IEC 24711 and 24712 pattern). Cartridges empty at different rates, so a single total would mislead.

Why three blacks and two of each colour?

That is the consumption shape of these printers: the black works in both documents and photos, while the five colours drain more evenly behind it. The mix keeps a spare of every position on the shelf.

Which printers does it fit?

All five verified 277 models: XP-850, XP-860, XP-950, XP-960 and XP-970.

What about the chips?

Every cartridge carries a new compatible chip. This set's cartridges each carry a new compatible chip. If your printer's firmware has been updated, recognition issues can occasionally occur — reseat the flagged cartridge and restart the printer first.

How should I store the spares?

Does it fit the XP-980?

No. The XP-980 is the sole 279 printer. This box is 277-only — and note the XP-960 belongs to this family, not to 279.
