Frequently Asked Questions

Yellow is the cartridge our office always forgets to reorder — how long does this one actually last?

Long enough to forgive the forgetting. The 046HY is rated at up to 5,000 pages, and yellow is spent slowly on ordinary documents, so on a shared MF735Cdw a single cartridge can quietly cover a very long stretch of work. That long life is the real reason offices forget it: the Canon 046H yellow almost never asks for attention until it is done.

How will we know when it finally runs out?

By the colours, not the clock. Greens are cyan plus yellow, so they turn blue as the yellow gives up, and warm pages lose their warmth and look cold. If the MF735Cdw's output has gone icy while the black stays crisp, the 046HY is the empty one — it never announces itself in its own colour.

Why is the high-yield version the sensible pick for a forgotten cartridge?

Because it halves the number of times anyone has to think about it. The standard 046Y is rated at 2,300 pages; this 046HY carries 5,000, and both cost the same $36.47. Fewer swaps, fewer surprise shortages — at roughly 0.73 cents a page against the standard's 1.59.

What are the matching cartridges for the other three slots?

Cyan is the 046HC, magenta is the 046HM and black is the 046HBK — the rest of the Canon 046H high-yield family. Running all four at the H level keeps their service lives long and roughly in step, yellow included.

Does this yellow fit the other 046 machines?

Yes. The 046HY serves Canon's imageCLASS MF735Cdw, MF731Cdw and MF733Cdw multifunction machines and the LBP654Cdw and LBP654Cfw printers. If the cartridge in the yellow slot reads Canon 046, this is its high-yield counterpart.

What cover does it come with?

A 1-year warranty, and free returns for a full year if it is not right for your machine. The policy details are on our shipping and returns page, and our support hours are Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
