Frequently Asked Questions

Three of us share the MF735Cdw — how do we stop it running dry of cyan mid-job?

Start with a cartridge that gives you a long runway: this 046HC is rated at up to 5,000 pages, so the low-toner warning comes far less often than with a standard fill. Then treat the warning as the reorder point rather than the emergency point. With a high-yield cartridge in the slot, a warning still leaves you plenty of pages to finish the week's work while a spare is on its way.

How can we tell it is the cyan running low, and not another colour?

Read the colours. Fading cyan pushes blues toward violet and turns greens yellowish and weak, while reds and skin tones stay normal — those belong to magenta and yellow. If your MF735Cdw's output has gone wrong only in the blue-green half of the palette, the 046HC is the cartridge to replace.

How many pages will one of these realistically cover?

Up to 5,000 at the rated yield, prints and copies counted together. A shared machine's real figure depends on how colour-heavy the office is: three people printing mostly letters will stretch it for months, while regular photo and brochure work spends it faster. At $36.47, the rated cost is about 0.73 cents a page.

Why not just buy the standard 046 cyan for a shared machine?

Because the numbers argue against it. The standard 046C costs the same $36.47 as this 046HC but is rated at 2,300 pages instead of 5,000 — about 1.59 cents a page against 0.73. On a shared MF735Cdw, the high-yield cartridge also halves how often someone has to stop and swap it.

Does this cartridge fit the other 046 machines too?

Yes. The Canon 046H cyan serves the imageCLASS MF735Cdw, MF731Cdw and MF733Cdw multifunction machines and the LBP654Cdw and LBP654Cfw printers. Any of them running a Canon 046 cartridge in the cyan slot can take the 046HC.

What cover comes with the cartridge?

A 1-year warranty, and free returns for a full year if it is not right for your machine. You will find the details on our shipping and returns page, and our support hours are Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
