Frequently Asked Questions

Why do purples in our prints keep coming out plain blue?

Because purple is cyan wearing a magenta coat. As the 046HM runs low, magenta's share of that mix disappears and purples collapse into ordinary blue — while reds slide toward orange at the same time. When both symptoms show up together, the Canon 046H magenta is the cartridge that has given up.

What does magenta actually do in a colour print?

More than its name suggests. Magenta builds every red and purple, and it is the cartridge that gives skin its pink warmth in printed photos. Without a healthy 046HM, reds go dull, purples go missing and faces lose the colour that makes them look alive — even though the printer never prints the word magenta on anything.

How many pages is the 046HM good for?

Up to 5,000 pages at the rated yield. At $36.47 that is roughly 0.73 cents per page for the magenta share of your printing. Photo-heavy pages spend magenta faster than letters do, so treat the rating as a guide rather than a promise — but it is a generous guide.

How does it compare with the standard Canon 046 magenta?

The standard cartridge, code 046M, is rated at 2,300 pages and sits at exactly the same $36.47 price — near 1.59 cents a page. This 046HM is the high-yield Canon 046H version with 5,000 pages inside. Given the identical price, the standard cartridge only makes sense if you actively prefer the smaller fill.

Which printers take the Canon 046H magenta?

The imageCLASS LBP654Cdw, LBP654Cfw, MF731Cdw, MF733Cdw and MF735Cdw — Canon's 046 family of colour laser machines. If the old cartridge in the magenta slot reads Canon 046, this 046HM is its high-yield replacement.

What cover do we get with this cartridge?

A 1-year warranty, plus free returns for a full year if it is not right for your machine. The details live on our shipping and returns page, and our support team is on hand Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
