Frequently Asked Questions

Our MF731Cdw copies as much as it prints — does copying drain the cyan the same way?

It does. Every copied page lays toner down exactly like a printed page, so the 046HC cannot tell the difference between a copy run and a print run. When you estimate how long this cartridge will last in an MF731Cdw, add the copies to the prints — offices that forget the copying are always surprised by how fast colour goes.

Why do copied photos come out with violet skies?

Sky blue is cyan mixed with magenta. As the Canon 046H cyan fades, magenta's share grows unchecked and blue slides toward violet. If the original photo looks right but the MF731Cdw's copies show purple skies and odd teal water, the 046HC is running low — the scanner is rarely the culprit.

How many pages should we plan on from this cartridge?

Up to 5,000 pages at the rated yield, counting prints and copies together. Dense colour originals — photos, brochures, full-page charts — pull that number down, while everyday letters with a colour letterhead barely touch it. At $36.47 the rated figure is roughly 0.73 cents a page.

Is the 046HC worth it over the standard 046 cyan for this machine?

On the numbers, yes. The standard 046C is rated at 2,300 pages and, unusually, costs the same $36.47 as this high-yield 046HC — so choosing the standard cartridge would hand you fewer than half the pages for identical money, at about 1.59 cents a page instead of 0.73.

Which machines does this cyan cartridge serve?

Canon's 046 family: the imageCLASS MF731Cdw, MF733Cdw and MF735Cdw multifunction machines, plus the LBP654Cdw and LBP654Cfw printers. If your machine's old cyan is marked Canon 046, the 046HC is the high-yield cartridge for that slot.

What cover do we get with it?

A 1-year warranty, with free returns for a full year if the cartridge is not right for your machine. The wording is on our shipping and returns page, and our support team is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
