Frequently Asked Questions

Our reds have started coming out orange — is the magenta cartridge the reason?

Very likely, yes. On this platform red is not a toner of its own; the machine builds it on the page by laying magenta over yellow. When the magenta supply fades, the yellow half of the recipe keeps printing at full strength while the magenta half thins out, so reds slide toward orange, purples lose their red component and drift blue, and skin tones turn sallow. The tell-tale sign is that blues and greens still look right while every warm color is wrong in the same direction. Print a color test page before you blame the artwork: if the magenta patch is visibly weaker than its neighbours, the 006R01397 is spent and a fresh cartridge restores the balance in one swap.

Does magenta get used up at the same rate as the other colors?

No — and on a shared departmental machine the gap can be wide. Magenta consumption follows the work, not the page count: a department printing property brochures, retail posters, presentation covers and anything with a red logo burns through magenta far faster than one whose color work is mostly blue charts and spreadsheets. That is why the four colors on these machines so rarely run out together, and why this cartridge is sold on its own rather than only in a set. The practical habit is to watch the magenta level separately on the supplies screen instead of assuming the color you replaced last quarter tells you where this one stands.

What does a page from this cartridge cost?

This cartridge is $47.94, and across its rated 15,000 pages that works out to about 0.32 cents per page — simply this listing's own price divided by its own rating, with nothing else folded in. The rating itself is a 5%-coverage benchmark, so a department printing dense, red-heavy material will land above that figure per page while lighter color work lands below it. Either way, the number gives whoever manages the machine's budget a straight, contract-free cost for the magenta component of every color page the department produces.

The magenta gives out in the middle of the week — what stops, and what keeps going?

Monochrome work keeps going. Black-and-white printing and copying never touch this cartridge, so the everyday document queues are unaffected. Color is where the shortage shows: with no magenta left, the machine cannot build reds, purples or natural skin tones, and color output comes off the tray visibly wrong until the cartridge is changed. The low-toner message appears well before that point, so treat it as your ordering signal rather than waiting for a spoiled print run — on a machine several departments rely on, swapping the 006R01397 at the warning stage costs a minute; reprinting a ruined color job costs considerably more.

Which machines does the 006R01397 fit?

Any machine in the WorkCentre 7425, 7428 and 7435 engine family, whatever configuration suffix its badge carries. The plain models are the WorkCentre 7425, its bigger sibling the WorkCentre 7428 and the range-topping WorkCentre 7435. Machines fitted with the booklet and finisher options take it as well — on the 7425 those are the WorkCentre 7425 FB and WorkCentre 7425 FBX, the WorkCentre 7425 FL and WorkCentre 7425 FLX, plus the WorkCentre 7425 FX; the same option codes on the 7428 give the WorkCentre 7428 FB and WorkCentre 7428 FBX, the WorkCentre 7428 FLX and the WorkCentre 7428 FX; and on the 7435 the WorkCentre 7435 FB and WorkCentre 7435 FBX, the WorkCentre 7435 FL and WorkCentre 7435 FLX, plus the WorkCentre 7435 FX. The R-coded variants are covered in exactly the same way: for the 7425, the WorkCentre 7425 R and WorkCentre 7425 RB, the WorkCentre 7425 RBX and the WorkCentre 7425 RL, the WorkCentre 7425 RLX and the WorkCentre 7425 RX; for the 7428, the WorkCentre 7428 R and WorkCentre 7428 RB, the WorkCentre 7428 RBX and the WorkCentre 7428 RL, the WorkCentre 7428 RLX and the WorkCentre 7428 RX; and for the 7435, the WorkCentre 7435 R and WorkCentre 7435 RB, the WorkCentre 7435 RBX and the WorkCentre 7435 RL, ending with the WorkCentre 7435 RLX. None of those suffixes describes a different toner bay — they mark feeders and finishers bolted onto the same engine. The one check that settles it before ordering is the code printed on the cartridge you pull out of the magenta bay: if it reads 006R01397, this is the correct refill for any of them.

Is it worth keeping a sealed spare in the supply cupboard?

For a machine several departments share, yes. Kept sealed in its bag, flat and away from heat and direct light, a cartridge waits on the shelf without any fuss, and having one there turns a magenta outage from a stopped color queue into a one-minute swap. The cartridge is covered by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns whether it goes straight into the machine or sits as the spare first. Orders ship from whichever of our four US warehouses — Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California — is closest to you, with the full terms on our shipping & returns page, and if you want the code checked against your machine before you stock up, support is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST; the wider range for this platform is in our Xerox catalogue.

About This Xerox 006R01397 Magenta Cartridge

Magenta is the cartridge the warm half of the color wheel stands on: reds, purples and skin tones on a WorkCentre 7425, 7428 or 7435 are only as accurate as this supply is fresh. This listing is one compatible Xerox 006R01397 magenta toner cartridge, rated at up to 15,000 pages and priced at $47.94 — about 0.32 cents per rated page — sized for departmental A3 volumes rather than desktop use, and a single cartridge covers every configuration variant across the three base models. It is covered by our 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns.
