Frequently Asked Questions

This machine spends most of its day copying and scanning — does that work draw on the yellow cartridge too?

It does, because a copy is a print. Every colour copy that comes off the glass, every scan reprinted in colour and every fax page rendered with colour elements lays down the same four toners a computer print job would, and yellow is in nearly all of them — it sits inside greens, oranges, skin tones and the composite greys these machines build out of colour rather than black. That is why the yellow supply on a WorkCentre 7425-family machine drains steadily even in an office that thinks of itself as mostly copying: the 006R01396 is not a print-only consumable, it feeds the copier side of the machine just as much.

How should a department read the 15,000-page rating on an A3 machine like this?

As a comparison figure, not a calendar. The rating is measured at the standard 5% page coverage on letter-size paper, and a departmental A3 machine rarely lives that life: a tabloid page carries roughly twice the printable area of a letter page, and the charts, highlighted reports and full-colour presentations a 7425, 7428 or 7435 typically produces run well past 5% coverage. Read it against your own volume instead — at about 1,000 colour pages a month this cartridge is a year-plus supply, while a busy department putting 3,000 colour pages a month through the machine should expect something closer to five months from it.

What does a page from this cartridge cost?

This cartridge is $47.94, and across its rated 15,000 pages that works out to about 0.32 cents per page — the arithmetic is simply this listing's own price divided by its own rating. There is no contract, click charge or service plan folded into that figure, just one cartridge bought outright. For a department tracking colour costs on a shared machine, that per-page number is the honest one to set against whatever the current yellow supply is costing.

The panel says the yellow is low — what actually happens if the department keeps working?

Black-and-white work is unaffected and can run as long as it needs to; it is the colour output that gives the warning meaning. The low message is the machine's estimate, and clean colour usually continues for a while after it appears, but once the yellow is genuinely spent the colour balance has nothing to build warm tones from and colour jobs come off visibly wrong. Treat the warning as the reorder point rather than the failure: have the replacement 006R01396 on the shelf when it appears, finish the monochrome queues whenever you like, and swap the yellow before the next colour run that has to be right.

Why does one cartridge cover 34 model names — and does the 006R01396 really fit all of them?

Because the 7425, 7428 and 7435 are one engine sold in many configurations. The suffixes after the base model — FB, FL, R, RB, RL, RX and the rest — describe finishers, feeders and fax or booklet options bolted onto that engine; none of them changes the toner bay, so a single yellow cartridge serves the whole family: WorkCentre 7425, WorkCentre 7425 FB, WorkCentre 7425 FBX, WorkCentre 7425 FL, WorkCentre 7425 FLX, WorkCentre 7425 FX, WorkCentre 7425 R, WorkCentre 7425 RB, WorkCentre 7425 RBX, WorkCentre 7425 RL, WorkCentre 7425 RLX, WorkCentre 7425 RX, WorkCentre 7428, WorkCentre 7428 FB, WorkCentre 7428 FBX, WorkCentre 7428 FLX, WorkCentre 7428 FX, WorkCentre 7428 R, WorkCentre 7428 RB, WorkCentre 7428 RBX, WorkCentre 7428 RL, WorkCentre 7428 RLX, WorkCentre 7428 RX, WorkCentre 7435, WorkCentre 7435 FB, WorkCentre 7435 FBX, WorkCentre 7435 FL, WorkCentre 7435 FLX, WorkCentre 7435 FX, WorkCentre 7435 R, WorkCentre 7435 RB, WorkCentre 7435 RBX, WorkCentre 7435 RL and WorkCentre 7435 RLX. The one check worth making before you order is the code on the cartridge coming out of the yellow bay: if it reads 006R01396, this is the correct refill whichever badge the machine wears.

What cover comes with this cartridge?

The cartridge is backed by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, so a unit that arrives faulty or fails early is replaced or refunded rather than argued over. Orders ship from whichever of our four US warehouses — Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California — is closest to you, with the full terms on our shipping & returns page; if you want a hand confirming the code against your machine's badge first, support is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, and the rest of this platform's range is in our Xerox catalogue.
